Pulmonary Embolism is characterized by shortness of breath, faintness, chest pain, rapid heart rate, fever, swelling and pain in legs, colored sputum and persistent cough. It refers to a blood clot which may begin in a deep vein in the leg or pelvis, moves through the blood stream and becomes lodged in a branch of an artery that nourishes the lungs.
