Herpes Virus is characterized by mucosa and skin lesions, lip and genital lesions, itching and skin blisters. It can be one of several common infections.  One common form, HSV-1, is known to cause cold sores or fever blisters on the lips or genitals.  It may also infect the eyes or the brain.  A second form, HSV-2, is sexually transmitted and is seen as red swellings that become blisters on the sexual organs, buttocks, abdomen and thighs.  Other forms of this infection include mononucleosis as well as the form transmitted to a baby during the birthing process of an infected mother.
