Bronchitis is characterized by general weakness, persistent cough, appetite loss, weight loss, wheezing and water retention. It is an inflammation of the membranes in the airways in the lungs.  If the condition persists for a prolonged period, the walls of the airways lose their elasticity and capacity to transfer oxygen into the blood stream and to absorb carbon dioxide.
